'I have had enough, Lord'

Today's passage is incredible.

1 Kings 19v3-9
v3'(Elijah) went a day’s journey into the wilderness. He came to a broom bush, sat down under it and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, Lord,” he said. “Take my life; I am no better than my ancestors.” Then he lay down under the bush and fell asleep.
All at once an angel touched him and said, “Get up and eat.” He looked around, and there by his head was some bread baked over hot coals, and a jar of water. He ate and drank and then lay down again.
The angel of the Lord came back a second time and touched him and said, “Get up and eat, for the journey is too much for you.” So he got up and ate and drank. Strengthened by that food, he traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Horeb, the mountain of God. There he went into a cave and spent the night.'

We often reach times in our life when we have had enough.  We often want to give up.  Things often get too much for us and we are overwhelmed by life.  Sometimes this can be through external factors, our own doing, taking too much on, or even through illness such as depression or anxiety.  Just like Elijah, we may often feel like we have had enough in our journey, perhaps even that we want to give up or even have life taken from us.  It's ok.  God understands.  And you know, He isn't going to push us on further, to force us onwards, to make us battle or to make us struggle.  He is going to love us out of our situation.  Look what He did with Elijah - he sent him sleep and rest.  He sent him food and sustenance, He strengthened Him. Not only once, but this happened twice!

Sometimes we need a break.  That's fine.  Sometimes we need to rest.  That's also fine.  God understands that we go through times of weakness and being overwhelmed.  So He allows us to rest.  It's amazing.  Sometimes we rest for a little bit, carry on and then need to rest again.  That is also fine.  Guys let's not burn ourselves into the ground by going, going and going some more.  We need to rest, to take in the Word, to be sustained by our Lord - not drained on a permanent basis.  There's no point fighting if you are going to end up killing yourself through straining yourself.  Rest up.  Rest on God.  It's ok. :)
